Restorative and Cosmetic Dentistry Services in East Cut, SOMA, & San Francisco

At the office of Michael J. Perona, we offer both restorative and cosmetic dental services. While both use many of the same techniques, they have different goals. Restorative dentistry focuses on restoring the health and function of the teeth. In most cases, the teeth are damaged, decayed, or painful. However, cosmetic dentistry’s goal is to improve the appearance of the teeth. Most cosmetic dental procedures are less invasive than restorative procedures.

What Kind of Dental Restoration is Right for Me?

There are myriad dental restoration options depending on the number of teeth missing, the extent of the damage, how permanent you want the restoration to be, and your budget. Dr. Perona can help you choose the right restoration for your situation.

Restorative Dentistry

Despite diligent preventive efforts, dental problems can still arise. Restorative dental care focuses on repairing and preserving the functionality of damaged or decayed teeth. Standard restorative procedures include fillings, crowns, bridges, and implants. These treatments not only alleviate pain and discomfort but also restore the structural integrity of the teeth, allowing patients to chew, speak, and smile confidently.

Dental Fillings

This is the most common dental restoration performed in the U.S. The dental filling is a tooth-colored resin used to fill a cavity or small hole in the visible portion of the tooth after any decay is removed.

Dental crowns

Dental crowns can cover and protect a tooth after a root canal or hold together a cracked, split, or misshapen tooth. The crown is cemented permanently over the tooth. Dental crowns are also attached to dental implants using abutments for permanent restorations.

Dental Implants

The most permanent restoration is a dental implant, which involves placing a screw-like implant in the jawbone to support a crown or dental prosthetic. Dental implant placement requires surgery and requires a longer recovery time than other restorative techniques. Dental implants are often part of a full-mouth restoration.

CEREC

The CEREC system allows Dr. Perona to design and fabricate individualized fillings and crowns that perfectly fit each patient’s teeth flawlessly. Using CEREC, we can manufacture the filling or crown in one day while you wait so that you can have a dental restoration in a single day.

Dental Bridges

When you are missing two or more teeth in a row between healthy teeth, a dental bridge can be designed to match your remaining teeth. The replacement crowns match your natural teeth and are supported on either side with either crowns or clasps attached to the healthy teeth on either side.

Cosmetic Dentistry: Looking Your Best for Life and All Its Events

Even if your teeth are healthy and functioning properly, you may be self-conscious about their appearance, especially if a special event is on the horizon. Many of us have discolored, crooked, or chipped teeth that we try to hide behind our hands. We are self-conscious about our teeth when we attend graduations, weddings, or corporate events. With cosmetic dentistry, we can correct flaws that ruin our self-confidence.

Ceramic Veneers

Ceramic veneers are made of the finest porcelain. These thin shells are cemented onto the front surface of your teeth to improve the color and correct minor imperfections such as chips, cracked, and crooked teeth. Veneers can last ten years or more with proper care.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® clear aligners have revolutionized orthodontics. These custom-made trays are a comfortable and discreet way to straighten mild to moderately crooked teeth, gently guiding them back into proper alignment using a series of removable mouthpieces.

Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is an affordable method of improving the appearance of broken, chipped, or misshapen teeth. A tooth-colored resin is applied in layers to the teeth and then carefully carved into the desired shape. Although it does not last as long as veneers, bonding costs less for those on a budget.

Teeth Whitening

One of the quickest and easiest ways to improve your smile is through teeth whitening. We can lighten your teeth up to eight shades in just an hour. If you prefer to whiten your teeth at home, our customized bleaching trays and whitening solution can do the job in just a few days.
